People spend too much time confined to a two-dimensional network of concrete and asphalt. The dream of futurists has always been a flying vehicle capable of efficiently moving passengers from A to B. Palo Alto based aviation company Opener is realizing this dream in a brand new, safe and easy-to-operate take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicle, called BlackFly. The Opener team shares a vision of a revolutionary form of personal transportation and works hard to build pioneering technology in VTOL aircraft. Maybe BlackFly heralds a new era of aviation – time and money spent traveling and maintaining infrastructure will be reduced, people will go places they never thought possible. On 5 October 2011, history quietly was made near the small town of Warkworth, Ontario, Canada. That day saw the first manned flight of a fixed wing all-electric VTOL aircraft. This event prompted the formation of a stealth company with the sole purpose of pursuing the development of this new unique technology. In September of 2014, the Company reorganized as Opener and relocated the majority of its operations to Silicon Valley in California to pursue an unencumbered and accelerated development timeline.
