Solar Impulse is a Swiss long-range experimental solar-powered aircraft project, and also the name of the project’s two operational aircraft. The privately funded project is led by Swiss engineer and businessman André Borschberg and Swiss psychiatrist and balloonist Bertrand Piccard, the first man to circle the world non-stop in a balloon. In this video, Piccard crosses the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Europe and lets you discover the cockpit of the Solar Impluse 2 aircraft. The cockpit looks rather different than that of conventional aircraft and even features a reclining seat for the comfort of the pilot who unfortunately can never rest for longer than 20 minutes at a time. This video was filmed for WIRED, an agenda-setting magazine that publishes a wide range of topics, from science, technology and business to pop culture and politics.
