It has always been mankind’s dream to fly like a bird. With SmartBird, Festo has managed to decipher the flight of birds. The bionic technology bearer, inspired by the herring gull, can take off, fly and land autonomously and without an additional drive. An active articulated torsion drive unit makes sure that its wings can flap and twist at specific angles. Festo has thus succeeded for the first time in creating an energy-efficient technical adaptation of this model from nature. The family-owned company Festo is a leading provider and developer of automation technology worldwide. For more please check out www.festo.com
