40,000 kilometers around the world without a drop of fuel and completely emission-free! The aircraft are single-seat monoplanes powered by photovoltaic cells. So far, so good. Life on board the Impulse is less than comfortable with severe temperature changes (the aircraft does not have a heating system!) and lack of space. Moreover, the pilots are not allowed to rest or sleep for longer than 20 minutes at a time. The toilet is located under a lid right beneath the seat. The bed is a reclining chair, so much for comfort. Nevertheless this quest is more than exciting. On 9 March 2015, Piccard and Borschberg began to circumnavigate the globe with Solar Impulse 2. They departed from Abu Dhabi and the aircraft was scheduled to return there in 2015 after a multi-stage journey around the world. And guess what, they succeeded! This exciting video shows the best scenes from a once-in-a-lifetime trip that will certainly go down in history. For more please check out www.solarimpulse.com
