Skydiving, also known as parachuting, actually means transiting from a high point to Earth with the aid of gravity and then slowing down right before the landing by means of a parachute. In this case it involves free-falling – a period during which the parachute has not been deployed and the body gradually accelerates to terminal velocity. Terminal velocity, what a term! It describes the highest velocity attainable by an object as it falls through a fluid, in this case air.
